The core business of the Australian Spatial Consortium is to address those issues that can best, and only, be tackled through partnerships across existing sector institutional frameworks; and that are demonstrably needed in the national interest.

Spatial information and technologies are deeply embedded in all aspects of Australian life. But we believe there are areas of the economy that still under-use spatial information, including utilities/ infrastructure, health, agriculture, insurance, banking, finance, entertainment and retail. A concerted effort must be made to more effectively spatially enable these and other areas.

Ultimately the objective of the ASC will be to accelerate the rate at which “spatial” becomes ubiquitous in Australian life. To achieve this there needs to be an increasing recognition of the importance and application of spatial information across society to achieve social, environmental and broad-based community outcomes.
